SKYCTC Assistant Professor of Nursing Elizabeth Hawkins recently attended the Boy Scouts of America National jamboree from July 15-25, 2013 in Mount Hope, West Virginia, at the Summit Bechtel Reserve. She attended the 10-day event, along with 50,000 other youth and adults from all across the U.S. Troops overseas were also in attendance.

Elizabeth served in a basecamp medical clinic set up to deal with first respondent type medical situations. Each basecamp served over 8,000 participants and was staffed 24 hours a day. The basecamp logged over 500+ visits a day during the jamboree. According to information from the Jamboree medical headquarters, Basecamp Bravo (where Hawkins served) logged more facility visits than any other basecamp facility.

All professionals who staffed the medical facilities where volunteers but paid to attend the jamboree. Most of their time was spent working to make sure youth and other adult participants were able to enjoy the celebration to its fullest.
